Sango & Waldo – Until Then EP
- Released: June 28, 2014
- ☆☆☆☆
- This 5-track EP from the Soulection duo is near perfect. Sango’s production diversity is always on point, and Waldo is continually reaching new heights with his bars.
- For Fans Of: The Weeknd, Raheem, GoldLink
Trey Songz – Trigga
- Released: July 1, 2014
- ☆☆☆☆
- This is my favourite Trey album to date, the crossbreed of R&B and Hip Hop works all too well for him. Production and features suit each track accordingly.
- For Fans Of: Chris Brown, Lloyd, Omarion
Sia – 1000 Forms of Fear
- Released: July 4, 2014
- ☆☆☆☆☆
- Sia has been writing smash hits for other artists for quite some time, finally she keeps some for herself.
- For Fans Of: Santigold, Little Dragon, MS MR
axxxxgxxx – Syrup Funk EP
- Released: July 4, 2014
- ☆☆☆
- axxxxgxxx continues to improve as a producer, it wouldn’t surprise me if you start seeing his name pop up in more credits.
- For Fans Of: NiceGuyxVinny, Sango, GXNXVS
The-Dream – Royalty: The Prequel EP
- Released: July 9, 2014
- ☆☆☆
- Mr. Radio Killa comes with a 7-track freEP, that surprisingly feels like it has some concept to it, not just a mix of eclectic tracks.
- For Fans Of: PartyNextDoor, SZA, Boots
Various Artists – Wish I Was Here Soundtrack
- Released: July 15, 2014
- ☆☆☆☆☆
- Zach Braff won a Grammy for the Garden State soundtrack, and this compilation right here treads that very same path.
- For Fans Of: Garden State OST, The Shins, Bon Iver
Sea Wolf – Song Spells, No. 1: Cedarsmoke
- Released: July 15, 2014
- ☆☆☆☆
- Beginning as a Kickstarter campaign, Sea Wolf had this concept to record stripped down ‘albums between official albums.’ The idea is working beautifully so far.
- For Fans Of: The Tallest Man on Earth, Bright Eyes, Fleet Foxes
Majid Jordan – A Place Like This EP
- Released: July 17, 2014
- ☆☆☆☆☆
- Definitely the most played project for me this month. The fusion between that 80/90’s pop feel and new age R&B works beautifully. 5 for 5, not a dull track on it.
- For Fans Of: PartyNextDoor, The Weeknd, Drake
Jeremih & Shlohmo – No More EP
- Released: July 17, 2014
- ☆☆☆
- Not a whole lot of diversity amongst the 6-track EP, but Shlohmo’s dense production with Jeremih crooning his way through the project works well enough.
- For Fans Of: The Weeknd, JMSN, Boots
K. Roosevelt – J O U R N E Y
- Released: July 21, 2014
- ☆☆☆☆
- HS87’s melodic crooner gives us a heartfelt 6-track self produced freEP. Look out for the man to find himself on some hooks in the near future.
- For Fans Of: Miguel, Ryan Leslie, Chris Brown
Common – Nobody’s Smiling
- Released: July 22, 2014
- ☆☆☆
- Maybe it’s the lack of Kanye’s influence in the project, or maybe it’s because No I.D. solely produced the entire album, but I feel like it was missing some excitement, that pizazz.
- For Fans Of: Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco
PartyNextDoor – PartyNextDoorTwo
- Released: July 29, 2014
- ☆☆☆☆
- The OVO crooner picks up where he left off with this second instalment. There’s a little more depth in the lyricism, and those sultry beats remain the same.
- For Fans Of: The Weeknd, Jhené Aiko, Drake
