Monday Blues & Beats Vol. 109

Volume 109

me and 40 back to work but we still smell like a vacation

Hola señors y señoritas, first off I want to apologize to you and your music libraries for the absence. As I was moving homes, the tool that pieces together these mixes was in solitary confinement for an extended amount of time. The move was then followed by a short vacation that included a complete disconnect from most technology. That being said, catching up on a few weeks of music is one of the enjoyments I looked forward to most. So here we are at Volume 109, that comes in two parts; regular edition (a handful of my favourites from the past few weeks), and extended edition (everything I’ve tuned into lately).

Lupe Fiasco – “Mission”

Mr. Lupe Fiasco has a knack for touching on some of the most heart-wrenching themes in his music. Just listen and let it sink in…

Coldplay – “A Sky Full of Stars”

[audio|titles=A Sky Full of Stars]

If you didn’t get the memo, the UK heartthrobs released their long-awaited sixth studio album a day early. This being one of the singles, I managed to sneak in a 20,30, maybe 40 listens before the LP release. This twinkling gem touches down on a bit of a low-key EDM arrangement, mixed with Martin’s torn love story of course.

Coldplay & Porter Robinson – “Midnight Voices (TKST Edit)”

[audio|titles=TKST Edit]

It didn’t take more then a few seconds for me to fall in love with The Kite String Tangle. Danny Harley of Brisbane, Australia strings together some of the more brilliant remixes and edits I have ever heard.

Adventure Club – “Wonder (The Kite String Tangle Adaptation)”

[audio|titles=TKST Adaptation]

The second result of my new found fascination comes in the form of an Adventure Club re-work. Harley gives is a nice slow and steady tempo.

DJ Khaled – “They Don’t Love You No More (feat. Jay Z, Meek Mill, Rick Ross & French Montana)”

Khaled is back with another staple debut single from his upcoming project I Change Alot. The hard knocker is produced by Mike Zombie, and best verse goes to Meek.

Neon Trees – “Sleeping With a Friend (The Chainsmokers Remix)”

These boys clearly have a machine that only churns out bangin’ ass remixes. The latest is courtesy of Neon Trees, just in time for those BBQ playlists.

Logic – “Alright (feat. Big Sean)”

This combination right here is one for the books. Logic delivers a hypnotizing hook along with punchy verses, while Big Sean domino-effects his bars, and TDE’s Tae Beast chops up the perfect underlying beat as the canvas.

Pharrell – “Happy (Kaytranada Edition)”

I am almost certain most of you are sick of this incredibly overplayed song by now, but you haven’t heard Canadian producer Kaytranada’s take on it. You might just throw this gem in those party playlists

GoldLink – “Wassup (feat. Sango)”

Virginia emcee GoldLink’s popularity and success continues to grow as he drops hit after hit. The latest gets an assist from Soulection’s Sango and a sample shoutout to one of my favourite Timbo & Magoo joints, “Indian Flute.”

Kaytranada – “All We Do (Remix) [feat. JMSN]”

Another standout track from the Montréal-based DJ/Producer comes from his brand new remix project Whateverwhich you can download HERE

Audio Push – “Parade”

The HS87 crew give us another taste of their upcoming project We The Plug, as the Audio Push duo make good on an in-House beat. Look out for the tape next week

Lykke Li – “I Never Learn”

The Swedish indie/dream pop extraordinaire has three incredibly diverse, yet consistent albums under her belt. This comes from the latest record I Never Learn

Lykke Li – “No Rest For The Wicked (feat. A$AP Rocky)”

A slightly unexpected duo, but one that works on all levels. Rocky jumps in on one Li’s numbers from the aforementioned project.

Big K.R.I.T. – “Mt. Olympus”

The country rapper follows up his Week of K.R.I.T. with a potent single from the highly-anticipated forthcoming album Cadillactica

Lil Wayne – “Believe Me (feat. Drake)”

As Weezy gears us up for Tha Carter V, he pops off with a simplistic banger that features his protegé. Produced by Boi-1da & Vinylz

Esta & Mr. Carmack – “Géometrik”

The Soulection family comes out with one of the silkiest beats i’ve heard in a minute, and if Loso ever heard it, you know it’d be “real nice.”

Meek Mill – “I Don’t Know (feat. Paloma Ford)”

Meek taps into a new vibe for him with the first single off his forthcoming sophomore album Dreams With More Than Money. Produced by The Honorable C-Note.

Spazzkid – “Flotus”

Spazzkid graced Volume 106 with something special, and in his words, this is a “quick cover he did last night,” of Flying Lotus.

Jeremih – “Don’t Tell ‘Em (feat. YG)”

Jeremih gets in on that DJ Mustard/YG duo, with some production help from Mick Schultz. His smooth R&B vocals slide all over this beat like butter.

Tennyson – “You’re Cute”

Luke Tennyson, a 17-year old producer of Edmonton, AB, has delivered a carefully crafted electronic instrumental
