Monday Blues & Beats Vol. 108

Volume 108

This week’s mix sees two fresh cuts from Boots, a mesmerizing ODESZA remix, Bas of Dreamville Records dropping bars, the return of Lana Del Rey, Chance The Rapper fighting back, brand new single from The Black Keys, Future and Kanye’s collaboration and more. Let’s go!

Ki:Theory – “Open Wound (ODESZA Remix)”

[audio|titles=ODESZA Remix]

Joel Burleson is better known as Ki:Theory, is an American producer/DJ and recently released his Kitty Hawk mixtape. Besides featuring six unreleased tracks, there were an abundance of quality remixes, including this carefully crafted one from Odesza.

Chance The Rapper – “The Writer”

[audio|titles=The Writer]

I have had this song in my library for 4 days, and it’s already show a 50+ play count. Produced by Apollo Brown, and found at the very end of THEMpeople’s Smokebreaks IVas a hidden track, Chance takes the opportunity to tell it as it is. This is very reminiscent of Cudi’s “Man on the Moon.”

Lana Del Rey – “West Coast”

[audio|titles=West Coast]

Ms. Lana Del Rey has returned with the lead single to her forthcoming album Ultraviolence. She tapped into the airy, reverb heavy vocals we’ve come to expect from the 27-year old New York born talent.

The Black Keys – “Turn Blue”

[audio|titles=Turn Blue]

I can’t say i’m a huge fan of everything The Black Keys have released post-Attack & Release, but the vibe from this second single from their forthcoming album Turn Blue has a low-key indie vibe that I dig.

Available on

Taylor McFerrin – “The Antidote (feat. Nai Palm)”

[audio|titles=The Antidote]

Mr. McFerrin is new to me, but I was automatically swept off my feet with this lead single. The intricately pieced together instrumental with enchanting vocals combines beautifully.

Available on

Boots – “My Heart Is A Stone Today (Unharmed)”

[audio|titles=My Heart Is A Stone Today]

AHM was introduced to Boots back in Volume 100, and as promised, we have more from the renaissance man. Jordy Asher’s ability to write and produce is exceptional, can you imagine if he had given these lyrics to Rihanna???

Boots – “Sheep/Lookin’ Muthafucka (Lude II)”

Here he goes showing off his diversity with a two-part track off his upcoming project WinterSpringSummerFall.

Little Dragon – “Paris”

The Swedish dream poppers have let go of their second single from the upcoming album Nabuma Rubberband. This is more of a pop/accessible number from the group.

Available on

PartyNextDoor – “West District”

[audio|titles=West District]

How PND is still willing to drop hit after hit for free is beyond me. Perhaps he’s taking a page out of The Weeknd’s playbook, regardless the TDot crooner isn’t slowing down.

VesperTown – “Fancy”

Here’s another new act to me, but I was a fan after 15 seconds of listening to this. Courtesy of the Donky Pitch record label, I look forward to more from VesperTown.

Bas – “Charles De Gaulle to JFK”

[audio|titles=CDG to JFK]

Dreamville’s Bas has continued to roll off the momentum of his record label compilation project Revenge of the Dreamers.

Ki:Theory – “Young Islands”

[audio|titles=Young Islands]

Here’s another gem from Ki:Theory’s Kitty Hawk project, a rather triumphant anthem.

Future – “I Won (feat. Kanye West)”

[audio|titles=I Won]

With Future’s sophomore album dropping next week, we get a high-end taster that features Ye praising his lady once again. Produced by Metro Boomin

Available on

Flatbush Zombies – “Red Light, Green Light (feat. Espa)”

[audio|titles=Red Light, Green Light]

The Zombies have been on a roll with the promotion of their upcoming project It’s All A Matter of PerspectiveErick Arc Elliott handles this deep, melancholy production.

Logic – “Now”

Logic spits some aggressive bars over this group-produced beat from 6ix, Arthur McArthur & Swiff D.

Tom Misch – “South East”

[audio|titles=South East]

Tom Misch of Soulection records released a 3-track freEP today, this being one of the buttery smooth chillwave tracks from it.

Killer Mike – “The Boonies”

[audio|titles=The Boonies]

Killer Mike links up with producer The Alchemist for a horror-hop joint.

Dizzy Wright – “Everywhere I Go”

[audio|titles=Everywhere I Go]

Dizzy has been garnering more attention these days, and he keeps it rollin’ with this MLB-produced jam from his upcoming EP State of Mind
