Happy Monday from AHM, and welcome to Volume 107 of our Blues & Beats series. This week in the mix we have a few superb remixes, fresh cuts from DZA, the Zombies, Strand of Oaks, The New Royales, B.o.B, a feature from D-WHY, Snoop Dogg paying tribute to his uncle, and Aubrey Season has struck again. Let’s get into it
The New Royales – “Minutes Of Moog (feat. Jay Electronica)”
The diverse four person group known as The New Royales have released arguably one of their best tracks yet. Enlisting the poet Jay Elec to spit over an engaging beat while Liz Rodriguez sings an instantly catchy hook.
Foxes – “Holding On To Heaven (The Chainsmokers Remix)”
Yet another addictive Chainsmokers remix to add to the collection. The victim this time is UK singer Foxes, who’s popularity is beginning to grow.
Drake – “Draft Day”
Drizzy provided a spark on April Fool’s by dropping this reference-filled track for the people. Boi-1da handles the productions, and even throws in a little Lauryn Hill sample.
Drake – “Days In The East”
Aubrey Season continued two days later when he released this classic ominous, brooding number. PartyNextDoor & 40 worked on the beat, and it’s fairly easy to tell who produced which part.
Paris Carney – “Run And Hide (feat. D-WHY)”
Paris Carney is a new artist to me, but getting a co-sign from my boy D-WHY gives her mad credit. The LA singer has a catchy indie pop sound, and Mr. Morris delivers a silky verse for the feature.
CHVRCHES – “The Mother We Share (Vanic Remix)”
I thought we had already seen a fair share of CHVRCHES remixes, but alas, there was still some brilliance to be uncovered. Vanic, a fellow Vancouverite, gives their most popular single a triumphant, energetic infusion.
Flatbush Zombies – “Get Yours”
The Zombies strike again with pure gold. There a little less aggression then the previous release “Don’t Do Drugs Kids,” but their diversity shines bright with this number. Produced by Erick Arc Elliott (once again).
The Kooks – “Down”
The Kooks are back, and they’ve clearly been experimenting with their sound. They have more of a R&B-inspired vibe happening with this new single.
Snoop Dogg – “We’ll Miss U (feat. Daz Dillinger)”
With the recent passing of Uncle June Bugg, Snoop and Daz pay tribute. It’s refreshing to hear Snoop do his thing over a classic beat like this. Produced by DJ2High
Strand of Oaks – “Goshen ’97”
Tim Showalter is Strand of Oaks, and here is the high-energy, repeat worthy single from his forthcoming album HEAL
B.o.B – “High As Hell (feat. Wiz Khalifa)”
Bobby Ray and Wiz team up for a kush banger. Produced by B.o.B
James Fauntleroy – “Year Round”
The multi-faceted James Fauntleroy continues to acoustic train with another heartfelt release.
Megan & Ashley – “The Monster/Wake Me Up”
We’ll keep this acoustic ball rolling with one that a good friend of mine inadvertently suggested to me. The acoustic mashup of these two Top 40 songs could not have been done more perfectly.
N.A.S.A. – “Hide (Tropkillaz Remix) [feat. Childish Gambino & Aynzli Jones]”
It’s been a minute since i’ve heard from the collabo king N.A.S.A. But here we are with a filthy remix of “Hide” featuring Bino and newcomer Aynzli Jones.
Allie X – “Catch”
Here’s the latest from unsigned newbie Allie X, and I can safely say i’m a fan. If you like CHVRCHES or HAIM, you’ll dig this
GoldLink – “Ay Ay”
This is the intro to Soulection emcee GoldLink’s brand new project God Complex, which you can check out in full HERE
LAKIM – “Maga Body”
Soulection member LAKIM shares a freebie with the fans to celebrate the release of This Is Her on vinyl
Smoke DZA – “Believe In The Shield (feat. Flatbush Zombies)”
DZA and the Zombies take a Limp Bizkit-esque rock approach to this collaboration. This comes from their Ringside 2 EP
Drake – “The Language (Rook Milo Remix)”
Rook Milo gives “The Language” a dirty, spacey vibe.
