Monday Blues & Beats Vol. 103

London Grammar

Good afternoon AHMers and welcome to Volume 103 of Monday Blues & Beats. I’m not sure if it’s just my ears, but I feel the music industry is churning out week after week of quality tunes. 22 tracks coming at you today from the likes of Frank Ocean, How To Dress Well, Lil Wayne, Kaytranada, Big Sean, Common, Hercules & Love Affair, Daft Punk featuring Jay Z and ODESZA remixing Pretty Lights.

Pretty Lights – “Lost And Found (Odesza Remix)”

Common Sense dropped a number for the surprising 10-track hip hop mixtape for the ever so popular Game of Thrones TV series.

How To Dress Well – “Words I Don’t Remember”

Tom Krell aka How To Dress Well is silencing the numerous critics who said ‘following Total Loss would be an impossible task.’ This new single of his right here, has to be one of my favourites from him; there’s a strong sense of raw vulnerability.

Available on

Lil Wayne – “Moment”

Coming from Young Money forthcoming compilation tape Rise of an Empire, Weezy drops some bars reminiscent of that Carter III flow. – “she only want alcohol and trees, fuck that you gotta branch out”

Available on

Gilbere Forte – “White Lights”

How this man is not signed to an accommodating record deal yet is beyond me. Versatility, flow, bars, hooks, creativity, artistic direction and even has a right-hand-man producer – Gilbere Forte is the whole package. “White Lights” is his latest offering, a dark ominous number explaining he’s going to stay on his grind regardless of what happens.

Axxxxgxxx – “Leo’s Interlude”

My introduction to this young producer was on Raheem’s most recent mixtape Dying To Live Foreverand since then I constantly looking forward to seeing his name pop up on my Soundcloud feed.

PartyNextDoor – “Persian Rugs (axxxxgxx Edit)”

The second appearance in this weeks mix from axxxxgxxx comes in the form of a chillwave edit of PND’s “Persian Rugs”

Daft Punk – “Computerized (feat. Jay Z)”

Here’s one from Daft Punk’s vault, as they claim it is some unreleased material. I wouldn’t say it’s their finest work, feels more like a demo to me. But I appreciate the relaxed vibe it has, and HOV spitting is an obvious bonus.

Big K.R.I.T. – “Steps (feat. Big Sant & Smoke DZA)”

Unfortunately, Week of K.R.I.T. ended last night with a trailer for his upcoming album as the seventh instalment. My suggestion would be to head HERE and download all six tracks for free.

Phoenix – “SOS In Bel Air (Ariel Pink’s Krystal Bamboo Remix)”

Phoenix sure does love their remixes, as here’s another from the official Bankrupt! collection. Ariel Pink gives it that Beach Boys Cali-love.

Big Sean – “Sanctified”

By now we’re all familiar with the Kanye West/DJ Mustard produced jam on Rick Ross’ Mastermind album, but Big Sean’s full verse surfaced this past week.

Casey Veggies – “Anything Goes”

Veggies hit us with a high-energy banger as he steps slightly outside his repertoire, but i’m a huge fan. Produced by The Futuristiks

La Sera – “Losing To The Dark”

As Katy Goodman, aka La Sera prepares for her upcoming record Hour of the Dawn, she gives away the first taste for free. This lo-fi, pop punk jam keeps it fun without going overboard.

Kendrick Lamar – “Swimming Pools (Urban Noize Remix)”

Urban Noize gave the world a snippet of this a few months back, and I loved all 30 seconds of it. The boys let go of the full track this past week, so throw it in those lounge party playlists.

Sean C & L.V. – “Live For Today (feat. Jadakiss, Fabolous, Bun B, Rob Zoe & Anthony King)”

The production duo Sean C & L.V. have a compilation album coming soon called Loud Dreams Vol. 1. Here’s the second single from the project, and features the perfect group of rappers for the beat

London Grammar – “Hey Now (Tensnake Remix)”

London Grammar continue to roll with the remixes, and here’s one from the forthcoming Hey Now EP

Available on

Chuck Inglish – “Glam (feat. Chance The Rapper)”

Chuck Inglish has his new solo LP Convertibles in stores April 8th. Chance finds a feature on this smooth soulful instrumental.

Stalley – “Midwest Blues”

The MMG wordsmith showed some fan appreciation by delivering this Black Diamond produced joint, who’s usage of silky jazz piano worked with Stalley’s vibe.

YOGI – “Burial (feat. Pusha T)”

The London production group YOGI found the perfect feature for this aggressive trapbeat number; King Push.

Kaytranada – “Kaleidoscope Love (Remix)”

The Canadian DJ/Producer gives AlunaGeorge’s sexy number a bit of funk and substance.

Frank Ocean – “Hero (feat. Diplo, Mick Jones & Paul Simonon)”

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Mr. Ocean, but he comes back with a freebie courtesy of Converse’s ‘Three Artists, One Song’ series. This sees Frank with the legendary guitarists from The Clash and Diplo in charge of production.

Hercules & Love Affair – “Painted Eyes”

The New York musical project is back with a new album after three years; The Feast of the Broken Heart comes May 26
