Welcome to Blues & Beats Volume 88, hope y’all enjoyed your thanksgiving weekends (depending on your location), I know I certainly did. I was out of town for the long weekend, hence the mix dropping on a Tuesday. Regardless, there’s a splendid array of new music coming at you from the likes of PartyNextDoor, GEMS, Childish Gambino, Star Slinger, Los Campesinos!, Eminem, Best Coast, Lupe Fiasco and more.
Los Campesinos! – Avocado, Baby
The second single from Los Camp’s upcoming album No Blues is of the higher energy variety, giving us the feel-good run-free sort of vibe. You can catch their LP at the end of the month
PartyNextDoor – Candy (feat. Nipsey Hussle)
Nipsey has been all over the place lately, and why not hop on OVO’s latest protege’s track. Produced by PND himself
PartyNextDoor – Muse
The second offering from Toronto’s young crooner is a solo effort that’ll put you in a laid back trance. Also self-produced.
T.I. – My Potna
Not sure where this track belongs, presumably it’ll find a home on Trouble Man 2, but wherever it belongs it carries a whole lot of a heat.
GEMS – Medusa
The dream pop duo from D.C. have brought a seductive, sexy number to the table as their title-single from the upcoming EP Medusa (November).
Eminem – Rap God
Here’s the third single from Em’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2, and the boy proves he has bars for days. Produced by DVLP
BlackBear – I Needed You
The R&B singer from LA plays with Sango’s beat and turns it into to something pretty special.
Lupe Fiasco – Old School Love (feat. Ed Sheeran)
Lu drops the lead single to his upcoming album Tetsuo & Youth, which is reminiscent of the “Battle Scars” vibe and sounds like Kanye’s “Family Business”
Best Coast – This Lonely Morning
The LA duo are back with another ‘pick-me-up’ track from their upcoming LP Fade Away
Lloyd Banks – Drop A Diamond (feat. Raekwon)
Banks stays consistent, which is always a good quality to have as an artist, but once in awhile he has those numbers that blow me away, The Wu legend, the beat from Ryan Alexy, Lloyd’s flow, and even the title are working together to create a brilliant composition. You can find this on the upcoming All Or Nothing Vol 1: Failure’s No Option.
Star Slinger – Free
It’s always a good time when Star Slinger’s creativeness hits the airwaves, and if you’re looking for something to get you going in the morning when the coffee isn’t quite cutting it, hit play on this.
Samo Sound Boy – Your Love (Shlohmo Remix)
Shlohmo took his magic wand and sprinkled producer fairy dust all over Samo’s original.
Game – F.I.V.E. (feat. Chris Brown & Lil Wayne)
Produced by Cool & Dre
Game – In the City (feat. Fred the Godson & Sam Hook)
Produced by SAP
Game – Compton (feat. Stat Quo)
These are three of the standouts from Game’s surprise mixtape O.K.E. (Operation Kill Everything). Even though it came out of nowhere, the project is impressive. He enlisted a good group of features and producers, plus he tapped into a handful of different sounds and vibes.
Du Tonc – Island
The duo consisting of Mighty Mouse and Matt Van Schie have made quite a splash with just a few sounds out. “Island” is their fourth single and is closer to the chillwave/dream pop sound, but fantastic nonetheless.
Childish Gambino – Yaphet Kotto
Bino dropped this freestyle earlier this week, as he vents a little about life and such. Because The Internet is the title of his upcoming album which is set for a December release.
Kirko Bangz – Rain Down (Remix) [feat. August Alsina]
Kirko enlists the latest Def Jam signee to hop on the remix of this silky smooth joint.
