Good morning and welcome to Volume 70 of Monday Blues & Beats. Hope you’re all enjoying the weather wherever you are, eat some ice cream, take a stroll on the beach, and make sure you take some time out of your day to enjoy some new tunes.
“We live in cold world, my job is to rock nations” – Talib Kweli (“Rocket Ships”)
It’s been a few years since we’ve heard from Ms. Lauryn Hill, and clearly she has a few things on her mind. The former Fugees members rattles off jab after jab over a busy futuristic beat with deep underlying rhythm. Get the single on iTunes now
I’ve been posting music from both these newcomers in the last few months, so it only makes sense they collaborate right? New York meets Scotland in this remix, and what CHVRCHES has done to the beautiful “Hurricane” is supernatural. A completely new look in the best possible way. MS MR’s debut album Secondhand Rapture comes out next week – stream the album HERE
Talib links up with a couple of OG’s in the form of Busta Rhymes on the verse and RZA on the beat. I highly recommend you check out Kweli’s latest album Prisoner Of Conscious, just dropped today – Get it on iTunes
Portland’s RAC (aka André Anjos) is back to his old tricks as per usual. He takes something cool, and makes it even cooler. Despite the lack of eloquent wording, RAC never disappoints.
The snippet for this track surfaced a couple weeks ago, but finally it’s arrived in full, and supreme quality. I was curious on the production, turns out E*Vax of Ratatat crafted the beat. If you have checked out the monstrous soundtrack yet, I suggest you do so – iTunes
Another snippet now in full from The Great Gatsby soundtrack; the controversial Amy Winehouse cover. I think both artists recreated the track in their own way, whilst maintaing the integrity of the original.
One of the silkiest, sexiest remix i’ve heard in a long time. The Norwegian DJ’s name clearly precedes him – hit play and float away on a nice cushy cloud…
Cole dropped Truly Yours 2 last week – a 6-track EP that doesn’t disappoint at all, not even once – this one is self-produced. In case you missed it the tape, you can download it for free HERE
Named after the Indians Hall of Famer – Produced by Canei Finch
Another new one from their upcoming album Modern Vampire Of The City, which will out next week – perfect music for the spring/summer weather. You can pre-order the album NOW
This collaboration surfaced a couple weeks ago, but finally it’s hit iTunes in explicit fashion. Up and comer Brendan Martin enlists two of the heaviest hitters in the game – addictive hook from Juicy, and an aggressive, well-orchestrated verse from K.Dot. Produced by Red Spyda
It was only a matter of time before Mariah and Miguel linked up for a track. This collaboration has a fantastic feel to it, they compliment each other too well. Not sure if the producer intended for the lo-fi, vinyl sounding vibe; but I dig it.
Havoc (of Mobb Deep) dropped his third solo album today, and here’s one of the standout tracks. It’s good to see Twista on another solid track – produced by Havoc.
In celebration of their upcoming joint tour, these two gorgeous ladies let go of this collaboration for free. “Just Desserts” is as sweet and sexy as it sounds.
Chance enlists Bino for this summer vibe joint courtesy of Nate Fox. This comes from his latest tape Acid Rap – Download it HERE
Another song coming from Portland in this week’s mix. The indie/psych pop duo have their debut album Curiosity coming in a few weeks.
