Welcome to Monday Blues & Beats, where I wrap up the previous week’s best tunes and compile them in one place. This week, Toro Y Moi’s blog-popular single “So Many Details” got remixed, Mesita shows signs of a new record, two new singles from members of the Odd Future crew, Four Tet hooks up with Jamie xx, and Fat Joe enlists Wayne, A$AP and French for his latest single.
Two incredibly talented artists in the Chill/Dream Pop/Ambient genre collaborate for seven minutes of electronic bliss.
Mesita is the solo act of 24-year-old James Cooley from Denver, CO. This beautiful composition features a well-orchestrated beat, mixed with phenomenal instrumentation including hypnotizing piano and soft drums, and a perfect amount of distortion in the vocals.
As an appreciation for all the support of GKMC, K.Dot was in the studio with J. Cole and dropped this fire. These two have incredibly chemistry, I look forward to more collaboration from them. Produced by J. Cole & Canei Finch.
Moi enlists Odd Future’s Hodgy Beats for the remix of his latest single. As if this track hasn’t garnered enough attention already.
This has to be one of my favourite joints from OF’s Earl Sweatshirt. He opens up, and tells a story about his life and how making it out of the darkness “is as hard as Vince Carter’s knee cartilage is.” Produced by the duo Christian Rich.
The second Odd Future single of the week comes from Young Veggies. Another laid back beat produced by Cardiak.
Contrary to his previous single, the collaboration is ‘straight fire’ as they say. The beat suits all three of these emcees flows to perfection. Produced by Infared & Illa (I couldn’t find anything official, but to me, the beat sounds like it contains elements of Young Chop’s “Don’t Like”).
This serves as the second single from Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up. Minaj has been very hit and miss for me since the mixtape/debut days. However, i’m a fan of her spitting over slower, dreamy beats; and she nailed this one. Produced by Boi-1da.
This is the fourth instalment of SRH’s City Scape project. All produced by FrankMusik.
Besides his ability to produce for other artist, Vincent Turner (FrankMusik) delivers great vocals over a fantastic upbeat dance anthem.
Another good track from the former Three 6 Mafia emcee. This one samples The Weeknd, and features Taylor Gang’s frontman Wiz. Produced by Juicy J and Crazy Mike.
